The Story Behind
The Make Studios
The Make Studios began with an unexpected detour.
In the summer of 2019, founder Efe Mike-Ifeta noticed a sign he had driven past countless times before without ever seeing it. It simply read: MAKE Cafe.. Curious, he turned around, walked inside, and struck up a conversation with the owners. That chance encounter led to The Open Mic at MAKE, a community event that brought independent artists together through live performance and conversation.
When the pandemic brought live events to a halt in 2020, The Make Studios adapted by launching MAKE Live Sessions, an online interview series that gave Canadian artists a space to share their music, stories, and creative journeys. That series would eventually evolve into Pop Up Conversations, which has since featured more than 100 artists from across Canada.
Those conversations shaped the direction of the studio.
Again and again, the same themes emerged. Artists weren't simply looking for more exposure—they were searching for clarity. Clarity about their audience. Their positioning. Their purpose. Their next step.
Today, The Make Studios exists to help independent artists move from idea to audience through strategy, storytelling, and project development. Every conversation, resource, and partnership is guided by a simple belief: meaningful creative careers are built with intention, not by accident.
